Jesus’ Temptation – A Bible Story for Kids

Jesus standing in the desert being tempted by the devil – a Bible story for kids

Jesus and the Sneaky Tempter in the Desert

A long time ago, right after Jesus was baptized in the river by John the Baptist, something amazing happened. A voice from heavensaid, “This is My Son, and I love Him.” Everyone knew Jesus was special. But before He began teaching people, Jesus needed time to pray and get ready.

So, Jesus went out into the desert—a very dry, hot, and lonely place. There were no towns, no houses, no food, and no people—just sand, rocks, and a bright sun above.

Jesus stayed in the desert for forty days and forty nights. That’s more than a whole month! And guess what? He didn’t eat any food the whole time. He was praying, talking to God, and getting ready to teach the world about love and truth. But after so many days, Jesus was very, very hungry.

Then someone came to Him in the desert. It was the devil, trying to trick Jesus.

The First Trick – Bread from Stones

The devil saw that Jesus was hungry and said,

“If You are really the Son of God, tell these stones to turn into bread.”

Jesus looked at the rocks. He could have done it. But He didn’t.

Instead, Jesus said,

“It is written: People don’t live on bread alone. We need every word that comes from God.”

Jesus knew that God’s Word was more important than food!

The Second Trick – Jump Off and Be Caught!

Then the devil took Jesus to the top of a big temple. He pointed down and said,

“If You’re God’s Son, jump off! Angels will catch You, right?”

Jesus didn’t jump. He knew that was not what God wanted.

He said,

“It is also written: Do not test God.”

Jesus showed us that we shouldn’t do something silly or dangerous just to prove something.

The Third Trick – A Kingdom for a Lie

Finally, the devil showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world—all the shiny palaces, towers, and people.

He said,

“If You bow down and worship me, I will give You everything!”

But Jesus stood tall and firm. He said,

“Go away, Satan! The Bible says: Worship only the Lord your God and serve Him alone!”

And just like that, the devil left. Angels came and took care of Jesus.

What We Learn from Jesus

Even though Jesus was tired, hungry, and all alone, He stayed strong. He didn’t listen to lies. He didn’t take the easy way. And he trusted God with His whole heart.

When we are tempted to do something wrong—like lie, take something that’s not ours, or be mean—we can remember Jesus. He said “no” to temptation. And so can we!
