Ruth and Naomi: A Story of Friendship and Faith

Naomi’s Journey to Moab

A long time ago, in the land of Bethlehem, there was a woman named Naomi. She lived happily with her husband, Elimelech, and their two sons. But one year, a terrible famine struck the land. There was not enough food for everyone, and people were struggling to survive.

To find a better life, Naomi and her family decided to move to a new country called Moab. Moab was different from Bethlehem—new people, new customs, and new traditions—but Naomi and her family made it their home.

As the years passed, Naomi’s two sons grew up and married kind women from Moab—one named Orpah and the other named Ruth Life seemed good, and Naomi’s family was happy.

But then, something very sad happened. First, Naomi’s husband, Elimelech, passed away. Naomi was heartbroken. Her sons took care of her, but after some time, both of them also passed away. Now, Naomi was left all alone with her two daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth.

Naomi felt lost and sad. She had no husband, no sons, and no one to take care of her. She missed her homeland, Bethlehem, and decided it was time to go back.

Would Orpah and Ruth go with her? Or would they stay in Moab? The journey of love, loyalty, and faith was about to begin. 💕✨

Naomi’s Decision to Return to Bethlehem

A Difficult Choice

Naomi sat with Orpah and Ruth, looking out at the land of Moab. She loved them both dearly, but her heart longed for home. She had heard that the famine in Bethlehem was over and that God had blessed her people with food again.

Naomi took a deep breath and said, “My dear daughters, I am going back to my homeland, Bethlehem. You should stay here in Moab, where your families live. You are still young—you can marry again and have happy lives.”

Orpah Says Goodbye

Orpah and Ruth were sad. They both loved Naomi very much and wanted to take care of her. They hugged her tightly and cried.

At first, both Orpah and Ruth said, “No! We will go with you!”

But Naomi insisted, “My daughters, I have nothing left to give you. My life is filled with sadness. You should stay in Moab and start a new life.”

With tears in her eyes, Orpah finally agreed. She hugged Naomi one last time, said goodbye, and went back to her family.

Ruth Refuses to Leave Naomi

But Ruth would not leave. She held onto Naomi’s hand and said, “No, I will not leave you.”

Naomi tried again to convince Ruth, but Ruth looked into her eyes and spoke beautiful, powerful words:

“Do not ask me to leave you or turn back from following you. Where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.”

Naomi saw the love and faith in Ruth’s eyes. She knew that Ruth was not going to change her mind. So, side by side, Naomi and Ruth began their long journey back to Bethlehem, not knowing what the future would bring.

Ruth’s Hard Work in the Fields

Starting Over in Bethlehem

Naomi and Ruth finally arrived in Bethlehem. The people in the town were surprised to see Naomi again. “Is this really Naomi?” they asked. But Naomi was sad and tired. She had lost so much.

Now that they were back, they needed food. But Naomi was too old to work, and they had no money.

Ruth Gathers Grain

One day, Ruth said, “Naomi, I will go to the fields and gather grain so we can have something to eat.”

In those days, farmers would let poor people pick up leftover grain from their fields after the workers had harvested. Ruth walked to a nearby field and started gathering grain, working hard under the hot sun.

The Kindness of Boaz

The field Ruth was working in belonged to a kind and wealthy man named Boaz. He was a relative of Naomi’s late husband. When Boaz came to check on his fields, he saw Ruth working and asked his workers, “Who is that young woman?”

The workers replied, “She is Ruth, the woman from Moab who came with Naomi. She has been working hard all day.”

Boaz was impressed by Ruth’s dedication and kindness to Naomi. He walked up to her and said gently, “Stay in my fields and gather as much as you need. I have told my workers not to bother you. When you are thirsty, drink from the water they have drawn.”

Ruth was surprised by his kindness. She bowed and asked, “Why are you being so kind to me, a foreigner?”

Boaz smiled and said, “I have heard about how kind you have been to Naomi. May God bless you for your kindness.”

Extra Blessings

Boaz wanted to help Ruth even more. He told his workers, “Leave extra grain behind for her to pick up.”

That evening, Ruth returned home with a large bundle of grain. Naomi was amazed! “Where did you gather so much?” she asked.

When Ruth told her about Boaz’s kindness, Naomi smiled. “Boaz is one of our family’s protectors! God is watching over us.”

Boaz’s Kindness and Marriage to Ruth

Naomi’s Joyful Discovery

When Ruth came home with a large bundle of grain, Naomi was amazed. “Where did you work today?” she asked.

Ruth smiled and said, “I worked in the field of a kind man named Boaz.”

Naomi’s eyes lit up. “Boaz! He is one of our family’s protectors. He can help take care of us!”

Naomi saw how much Boaz cared for Ruth. She thought that Boaz would be a good husband for her, so she came up with a plan to help Ruth find a secure and happy future.

A Special Request

Naomi told Ruth, “Tonight, Boaz will be at the threshing floor, separating grain. Go to him after he finishes eating and lay down near his feet. This is a sign that you are asking for his protection.”

Ruth trusted Naomi and did as she said. When Boaz woke up and saw Ruth, he was surprised. “Who are you?” he asked.

Ruth answered, “I am Ruth. Please take care of me, as you are one of our family’s protectors.”

Boaz was touched by Ruth’s kindness and faithfulness. “You are a wonderful woman, Ruth. I will do everything I can to take care of you.”

Boaz Marries Ruth

But before Boaz could marry Ruth, he had to follow the law. There was another relative who had the first right to help Naomi’s family. Boaz went to this man and asked, “Will you take care of Naomi and Ruth?”

The man shook his head. “I cannot,” he said.

So Boaz happily announced, “Then I will marry Ruth and take care of Naomi.”

Soon, Boaz and Ruth were married in a joyful celebration. Ruth, once a poor widow from Moab, was now part of a loving family in Bethlehem.

A Blessing for Generations

God blessed Ruth and Boaz with a baby boy named Obed. Naomi held the baby in her arms, full of happiness.

Obed later became the grandfather of King David, and from David’s family, many years later, Jesus was born!

Because of Ruth’s kindness, faithfulness, and love, she became part of God’s great plan.

But the blessings did not stop there. Many years later, from David’s family, Jesus Christ was born—the Savior of the world!
