The Boy Jesus’ Temple Adventure

Mary, Joseph, and Jesus walking on a road to Jerusalem during Passover.

The Boy Jesus’ Temple Adventure: Hey, kids! This is a fun story about Jesus when he was a big boy—not a baby anymore! It’s got a busy trip, a huge temple, and a “Where’d he go?” surprise. Let’s check it out!

A Family Tradition

Jesus was 12 years old. He lived in Nazareth with Mary and Joseph. Every year, they went to Jerusalem for a big party called Passover. It was like a giant “Thank you, God!” celebration. “Time to go!” Joseph said. Jesus was excited!

The Road to Fun

They walked with friends and cousins. The road was dusty and long. Jesus might’ve kicked rocks or run ahead. They sang happy songs. Mary packed bread and figs. “Yum!” Jesus said. It took days to get there, but they didn’t mind.

The Big Temple

Jerusalem was loud and busy! The temple was the coolest part—a huge building with tall steps and big stones. People prayed and sang. Birds flew around—coo, coo! Jesus loved it. Teachers told God stories. It felt super special.

Passover Party

Passover lasted a whole week! They ate yummy food and played games. Jesus watched everything with big eyes. Mary and Joseph prayed. The temple was packed. “This is fun!” Jesus said. Everyone was happy to be there.

Heading Home

When the party ended, Mary and Joseph packed up. They joined a big group going back to Nazareth. Kids ran around. Goats bleated—baa! Mary thought Jesus was with cousins. Joseph thought he was with friends. They started walking home.

Where’s Jesus?

They walked all day. The sun went down. “Joseph, where’s Jesus?” Mary asked. Joseph looked around. “I don’t see him!” he said. Uh-oh! Jesus was gone! Their hearts went thump-thump. “We’ve got to find him!” they said.

Running Back

They raced back to Jerusalem. Their feet hurt. They checked streets and markets. “Jesus!” Mary called. Two days went by—no Jesus! They were worried. “Where could he be?” Joseph asked. They didn’t sleep much.

Found at Last

On the third day, they went to the temple. There he was—Jesus! He sat with the teachers, listening and asking smart questions. “Wow, this boy’s clever!” the teachers said. Jesus grinned. He loved talking about God!

A Big Hug

Mary ran over. “Jesus! We were so scared!” she said. Joseph nodded. “Why didn’t you come with us?” Jesus tilted his head. “I was in my Father’s house!” he said. He meant God’s temple! Mary hugged him tight. They were happy again.
