A Cold Night and a Scared Friend
It was a cold night. Jesus had been taken away by soldiers. Peter followed behind, hiding in the shadows. He wanted to see what would happen—but he didn’t want to be caught.
He sat near a fire outside the high priest’s house. People were standing around. Some looked at Peter closely.
“You were with Jesus,” one of them said.
Peter quickly shook his head.
“No, I wasn’t,” he said.
The Questions Continue
A little later, another person spoke.
“You sound like one of Jesus’ friends.”
Again, Peter said, “I don’t know Him.”
Then a third person pointed.
“I saw you with Him in the garden!”
Peter was scared. “I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Just then, a rooster crowed—cock-a-doodle-doo!
Peter froze. He remembered Jesus’ words:
“Before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don’t know Me.”

Tears and a Broken Heart
Peter’s eyes filled with tears.
He had told Jesus he would never leave Him. But now he had said he didn’t even know Him—three times.
Peter ran away and cried. He felt terrible. He had let his best friend down.
But the Story Doesn’t End There
Later, after Jesus rose from the dead, He met Peter again. They stood by the sea.
Jesus looked at Peter with love. “Do you love Me?” He asked.
Peter nodded. “Yes, Lord, I do.”
Jesus said, “Then feed My sheep.” That meant: keep sharing My love.
Jesus wasn’t angry. He forgave Peter. He gave him a second chance.
