What Is a Parable?
Jesus was the best storyteller. He didn’t use big words or long speeches. Instead, He told simple stories about seeds, sheep, coins, farmers, and families.
These stories were called parables. A parable is a short story that teaches a special truth. Jesus used everyday things to help people understand big ideas about God’s love.
The Sower and the Seeds
One day, Jesus told a story about a farmer who planted seeds. He tossed them everywhere!
Some seeds fell on the hard path—birds ate them.
Some landed on rocks—they grew fast but died.
Some dropped into thorns—the weeds choked them.
But some landed in good soil—and those grew into strong, healthy plants!
Jesus said this is like our hearts. Some people hear God’s word and forget it. Some get excited, then give up. But some hold on to it—and grow strong in faith.

The Lost Sheep
Jesus also told a story about a shepherd with 100 sheep. One day, one sheep got lost.
Instead of staying with the 99, the shepherd left them and searched for the one. He looked high and low. Finally, he found the little sheep and carried it home on his shoulders, smiling all the way.
Jesus said, “God is like that. He celebrates when even one person comes back to Him.”

What This Teaches Us
Jesus used parables to help everyone—kids, adults, rich, poor—understand God’s heart. Each story is like a picture of how much God cares.
The Sower teaches us to grow strong in God’s Word.
The Lost Sheep shows us how God never stops looking for us.
