Dino’s Big Egg: Read the Story
Mama Dino had laid an egg. It was round and speckled and as big as a watermelon. Dino, her son, was very excited. “When will it hatch?” he asked every morning.
“When it’s ready,” said Mama.
Dino wanted to help. He sat next to the egg to keep it warm. He told it stories about the volcano and the river and the tall trees with the tastiest leaves. He sang it songs, even the one about the three hungry pterodactyls.
One night, Dino heard a sound. Tap. Tap, tap. He pressed his ear to the egg. Crack! A tiny crack appeared. Then another. Then a little green nose poked out, followed by two big blinking eyes.
“Mama!” Dino whispered. “It’s hatching!”
Out wobbled a baby dinosaur, small and wet and wiggly. She looked around, and then she looked straight at Dino. “Peep,” she said.
“She knows my voice,” said Dino. “She heard all my stories.”
Mama smiled. “You’re a big brother now.”
The baby dinosaur curled up next to Dino and closed her eyes. Dino curled up next to her and closed his eyes too. And Mama Dino watched over both of them, all night long, under the big yellow moon.
