The Princess Who Lost Her Shoe: Read the Story
Princess Amara loved to run. She ran through the castle halls. She ran across the garden. She ran so fast that one evening, her sparkly blue shoe flew right off her foot and disappeared into the hedge maze.
“Oh no!” said Amara. “The royal dance is tonight!”
She hopped into the maze on one foot. It was getting dark. Every path looked the same. Left, right, left again. Then she heard a small voice. “Looking for something?”
It was a hedgehog, holding her blue shoe in his tiny paws. “I found it on my doorstep,” he said. “Is it yours?”
“Yes! Thank you!” said Amara. “But I’m lost. Do you know the way out?”
“Of course,” said the hedgehog. “I live here.” He led her left, right, straight, right and out of the maze, just as the castle bells rang for the dance.
“Will you come to the dance with me?” Amara asked.
The hedgehog had never been to a royal dance. He sat on Amara’s shoulder all night long, and they twirled and laughed until the moon was high.
When it was time for bed, Amara made the hedgehog a tiny bed in a teacup. “Goodnight, my brave guide,” she said. And from then on, she always walked, not ran, through the hedge maze, so she could visit her friend.
