The Dinosaur Who Couldn’t Roar is a dinosaur bedtime story about a T. rex who is different from the others. It’s good for kids who feel they don’t fit in, and for kids who are scared of thunder.
The Dinosaur Who Couldn’t Roar: Read the Story
Rexie was a little T. rex with tiny arms and a big smile. All the other dinosaurs could roar. Big Trike went “ROAR!” Long-necked Bronty went “ROOOAR!” Even Pip the baby Stegosaurus could squeak out a small “rawr.”
But when Rexie tried, all that came out was a giggle. “Hee hee hee!”
“A T. rex has to roar,” said Big Trike. “Everybody knows that.”
Rexie felt silly. She walked off to the edge of the swamp and practiced all afternoon. “Ro… hee hee!” It was no use.
That evening, there was a terrible thunderstorm. Lightning flashed and thunder boomed. All the little dinosaurs huddled together under a big fern, shaking with fright. Pip the baby Stegosaurus started to cry.
Rexie didn’t know what to do. So she did the only thing she could. She giggled. “Hee hee hee!”
Pip stopped crying and looked up. “That’s a funny sound,” he said, and he giggled too. Then Bronty giggled, and Big Trike giggled, until everybody under the fern was laughing so hard they forgot all about the storm.
When the thunder rolled away, Big Trike patted Rexie on the head. “Maybe a T. rex doesn’t have to roar,” he said. “Maybe a T. rex can giggle.”
That night, all the dinosaurs fell asleep in a big pile under the fern, and the last sound in the swamp was one tiny, happy “hee hee.”
