Jesus’ Awesome Mountain Talk: The Beatitudes for Kids

The Beatitudes for kids start with one of Jesus’ most famous talks. Read the story below, then learn the eight “Happy Blessings,” lessons and a prayer.

Hey, kids! This is a cool story about Jesus giving a big, happy talk on a mountain! It’s full of easy rules to live by and lots of love. Let’s climb up and listen!

A Big Crowd

One day, Jesus saw tons of people following him. They wanted to hear his words. “Let’s go up this mountain!” he said. He climbed up and sat down. The crowd sat on the grass. Kids wiggled close. Everyone was excited!

Happy Blessings

Jesus smiled. “I’ve got good news!” he said. “Blessed are the people who are kind—they’ll get big hugs from God!” He kept going. “Blessed are the peacemakers—they’re God’s buddies!” The crowd cheered. They loved these happy promises!

Be a Light

“You’re like a bright light!” Jesus said. “Shine for everyone to see!” He meant being good and helpful. “Don’t hide your light under a basket—let it glow!” he said. Kids giggled. They wanted to shine too!

Love Everyone

Jesus had a big rule. “Love God with all your heart!” he said. “And love your neighbors like you love yourself!” Someone asked, “Even grumpy people?” Jesus nodded. “Yep, everyone!” It was a tough rule, but super nice.

No Worries

“Don’t worry about stuff!” Jesus said. “Look at the birds—they don’t shop, but God feeds them!” He pointed to flowers. “They’re pretty without trying—God takes care of them too!” The crowd relaxed. Jesus made it sound easy.

Ask and Knock

“If you need help, ask God!” Jesus said. “Knock on his door—he’ll open it!” He grinned. “Dads give kids bread, not rocks, right? God’s even better!” Kids nodded. They liked asking for snacks!

The Golden Rule

“Here’s a fun trick!” Jesus said. “Treat people the way you want to be treated!” It was simple. “If you like hugs, give hugs!” he said. The crowd clapped. They wanted to try it right away!

A Strong House

Jesus told a story. “Build your life like a house on a rock—strong with my words!” he said. “Not on sand—it’ll fall, whoosh!” The wind blew, but the crowd felt safe. They wanted strong houses too!

Wow from the Crowd

When Jesus finished, everyone said, “Wow!” He talked like he knew God personally. “He’s amazing!” they whispered. They left the mountain happy, ready to shine and love. Jesus’ words stuck with them!
