Hey, kids! This is an exciting story about Jesus facing some tough challenges in a sandy desert! It’s got a sneaky bad guy, big choices, and Jesus being super smart. Let’s check it out!

Heading to the Desert

After his river baptism, Jesus went to the desert. It was hot and sandy—no houses, no snacks! He stayed there for 40 days. That’s a long time! He didn’t eat anything. He prayed to God instead. “I’ve got a big job ahead!” he said.

The Sneaky Bad Guy

One day, a tricky guy showed up—the devil! He wanted to mess with Jesus. “You’re hungry, right?” he said. “Turn these rocks into bread!” The devil grinned. He thought he’d trick Jesus. But Jesus was ready!

No Bread Trick

Jesus looked at the rocks. His tummy growled. But he said, “Nope! People don’t just need bread—they need God’s words!” He didn’t fall for it. The devil huffed. “Fine, let’s try something else!” he said. He wasn’t giving up yet.

A High Jump Idea

The devil took Jesus to the top of the big temple in Jerusalem. “Jump off!” he said. “God’s angels will catch you—show off a little!” He smirked. Jesus shook his head. “No way! I won’t test God like that!” he said. Smart move, Jesus!

A Big Power Offer

Next, the devil took Jesus to a high hill. “Look at all these kingdoms!” he said. “I’ll give you everything if you bow to me!” He waved his arms. Jesus frowned. “Nope! I only listen to God!” he said. The devil was getting mad now!

Jesus Wins

The devil tried three tricks, but Jesus said “No!” every time. “Go away!” Jesus told him. The devil stomped off, grumpy. Angels came down—flap, flap! They brought Jesus food and hugs. “You did it!” they cheered. Jesus smiled. He was strong!

Back to Work

After 40 days, Jesus left the desert. He was ready to help people. The devil couldn’t stop him. “God’s with me!” Jesus said. He walked back to town, full of power. Big things were coming, and he wasn’t scared!

Jesus’ Three Answers From the Bible

Each time the devil tried to trick Him, Jesus answered with words from the Bible:

  • Bread test: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4, KJV)
  • Jump test: “Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.” (Matthew 4:7, KJV)
  • Power test: “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.” (Matthew 4:10, KJV)
