The Dragon Who Was Scared of the Dark: Read the Story
Dax was a young dragon with green scales and tiny wings. He could breathe little puffs of fire, and he could fly as high as the treetops. But Dax had a secret. He was scared of the dark.
Every night, Dax lit a small fire at the front of his cave so it would never get too dark. One windy night, the wind blew his fire out. Whoosh! The cave went black.
“Help!” squeaked Dax.
A soft glow appeared. It was a firefly, blinking her little green light. “Why are you scared?” she asked.
“Because I can’t see anything in the dark,” said Dax.
“Come outside with me,” said the firefly. “The dark has lots to see if you look up.”
Dax crept outside. Above him, the sky was full of stars, thousands of them, sparkling like sugar. The Moon was round and bright. Fireflies danced over the grass like tiny lanterns.
“Oh,” whispered Dax. “The dark is beautiful.”
That night, Dax slept outside under the stars for the very first time. He never needed his little fire again, because now he knew the night was full of friends.
