Grandpa’s Magic Blanket: Read the Story
Sam’s grandpa had an old blue blanket with patches all over it. There was a red patch, a yellow patch, a patch with boats on it and a patch with stars.
“Every patch is a story,” Grandpa said, tucking the blanket around Sam.
Sam pointed to the patch with boats. “What’s this one?”
“That’s from my first fishing trip,” said Grandpa. “I caught one tiny fish and let it go, because it looked at me with such big eyes.”
Sam laughed and pointed at the yellow patch. “And this one?”
“That’s from your mother’s baby blanket,” said Grandpa softly. “She loved to chew the corner.”
They went through every patch, one by one. The red patch was from Grandma’s favorite scarf. The star patch was from a camping night when Grandpa saw a shooting star.
“Is there a patch for me?” Sam asked sleepily.
Grandpa smiled and pulled out a small green square from his pocket. It was cut from Sam’s old pajamas. “Tomorrow we’ll sew it on together,” he said.
Sam wrapped himself up in all those stories and fell asleep, feeling warm from his toes to his nose.
